Amir, a noted Iranian football player, has been accused of Baghi which is a crime similar to waging war against God in Iran's Islamic Judiciary. The difference between waging war against God and Baghi is that the former refers to acts that are against the safety of the society and latter is against the government. Despite the technical difference in the definition of these terms, death penalty is the verdict for both.  He is accused of being a member of an organized, armed group to overthrow the regime. The alleged organization has not been named and there is no proof that Amir is involved in any such organization . He has been charged with participating in the killing of three security forces on 15 November 2022. Amir’s home was raided by security forces and he was arrested on 17 Nov 2022.  Initially there were rumors expressing that Amir had been sentenced to death, but later Iran’s jurisdiction authorities denied them. Many national football players have joined a campaign to save his life.
